TAFE4ALL
Fee fighters
Building opposition to education fee hikes
Victorian TAFE students face steep debts after the state government announced last year it would significantly raise fees.
EMC has worked with the Australian Education Union to develop the TAFE4All campaign to reverse this decision.
Since launching in mid-2009, TAFE4All has combined online actions with a targeted media campaign to make TAFE fees a contentious political issue heading into the 2010 state election.
With TAFE4All, EMC has developed:
- a Facebook community of over 1,200 supporters
- a popular blog site, where participants can engage with and contribute their own material
- a politically targeted free media campaign
- print, radio and television ads.
Polling shows public awareness and opposition to the TAFE fee hike have grown sharply.
TAFE4All grew quickly by using campus-based events to promote online engagement, said communications consultant Adrian Dodd. “We’ve also struck the right balance in our use of different media.”
