Keep our Cops delivers better pay and conditions for police
Deteriorating work conditions and cost of living pressures saw NSW Police leave the force in droves.
With a new Enterprise Agreement up for negotiation in 2009, the NSW Police Association approached EMC to help pressure the NSW Government into delivering a fair deal.
EMC developed the Keep our Cops campaign, with a multimedia website at its centre. During 8 months of EBA negotiations, 19,000 supporters signed up to Keep our Cops. Fortnightly videos were broadcast and weekly emails distributed via the site.
The Association was able to mobilise the large community of Keep Our Cops supporters to take part in on-line activities like petitions as well as community events like rallies.
A targeted free media campaign kept police issues in the metro newspapers and TV news.
The NSW Government finally offered a deal with pay rates significantly higher than the flagged 2.5% limit and withdrew proposed cutbacks to crucial conditions like injury pay.
Police officers said they felt ‘in the loop’, understood the negotiation process and were happy for the opportunity to get involved in the campaign.
