49% approve Julia Gillard’s performance as Prime Minister and 33% disapprove. Since this question was asked last week, approval has decreased by 3% and disapproval increased by 3%. 94% of Labor voters approve and only 2% disapprove. Among Liberal/National voters, 18% approve and 70% disapprove.

By gender – men 51% approve/36% disapprove and women 49% approve/30% disapprove.

    Can you explain why your poll ( and others like Morgan which appear to show a better result for Labor, ) doesn’t get the same publicity as Newspoll ( i the Murdoch press) – this applies even on the ABC – which seems to go only for Newspoll?

    The Essential Report is a newer poll, using a different methodology to traditional phone polls.

    A growing number of media outlets are picking up the poll including Sky TV, ABC News Radio, Crikey and MTR – we also regularly get quoted by commentators in the major broadsheets. That said, we do not have a commercial relationship with a news outlet like some of the other polls.

    Hopefully, with support like yours, awareness of this poll will continue to grow
